Danes said she is “conflicted” about the long-running terrorism drama series coming to an end, but she’s ready, adding “She’s a lot, this Carrie-freakin’ Mathison character.”
Noting that Carrie “is under constant duress,” Danes told Stern. “It’s a workout,” so “I’ll be ready for a reprieve from that.”
Danes also announced on the show that she is pregnant and is in her second trimester. This will be Danes’ and husband Hugh Dancy’s second child; they have a 5-year-old boy.
Like Danes’ first pregnancy, the second one also is not expected to affect the show’s production. Homeland is not expected to go back in production on Season 8 before end of year.
Homeland was renewed for Seasons 7 and 8 ahead of the sixth season. At the time, the Emmy-winning series’ executive producer/showrunner Alex Gansa told Deadline that his team would be writing an ending to the series in Season 8, but was quick to point out that it is ultimately Showtime’s decision when to wrap the series.
While the 2019 ed date had long been rumored and the deals for most key auspices on the show are believed to be up after Season 8, the network is yet to announce whether Homeland will be ending after eight season.
