Multiple missiles have been launched into Iraq from Iran targeting American bases.

Rockets have been fired at the Al-Asad air base in western Iraq which is used by US forces.Reuters cited a US official as having confirmed the attack, which was reported also by the Agence France-Presse news agency. The official said there was no information yet on casualties or other damage. It came as other, unconfirmed reports said an explosion had been heard in the northern Iraqi city of Erbil. In the days following the US killing of Iranian general Qassem Soleimani in Baghdad, Tehran and its proxy militias in Iraq have threatened revenge on American forces. Iraq's parliament voted to expel US troops from the country, where about 5,000 are based.
